Arcata to increase parking for downtown residents and employees
ARCATA- The Arcata City Council has directed staff to start drafting and ordinance that will increase parking in the downtown area.
Arcata Mayor Mark Wheetley said the city will work on three different strategies to make parking easier downtown. The 11th Street bridge will be opened up from four hour parking to unrestricted . The city will work to develop the transit center parking lot into preferential parking spaces for city employees, downtown residents and bus riders.
Wheetley said the city will work with the Arcata Chamber of Commerce and landowners to have underutilized parking lots leased out to businesses and residents.
Wheetley said the change on 11th street could happen as soon as May.
