EUREKA- A 14-year-old Arcata male is dead following a homicide this morning in Eureka.
“We have gone door to door and interviewed the neighbors and people that are still home,” said Captain Brian Stephens with the Eureka Police Department. “This is a working community so a lot of people had already left for work. So we are currently investigating a homicide at this point. Obviously you can see the detectives and everybody are on scene conducting that investigation. ”
Officials with the Eureka Police Department are trying to piece together what happened on the 3200 block of 15th Street Wednesday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m. an unresponsive juvenile male was found in the yard of a home with visible wounds to his torso. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital before succumbing to his injuries. Authorities would not release the male’s identity or the consistency of the wounds but say he was known to law enforcement prior to his death. There are no suspects or leads at this time.
Police questioned anyone coming in or leaving the street today. Neighbors close-by told News Channel Three that the community is typically quiet, they even have their own neighborhood watch group that monitors area crime.
“Another one of my roommates said it looked like someone had been moving out this past week,” SAID MORGAN DUNN, A McFarlan Street Resident. “There's been a lot of traffic and trucks and it's a dead end road so it's a little odd. it's always quiet, it's a nice neighborhood. honestly, I think it's a random event so I'm not too concerned but I'll be on high alert for a while.”
This is the city of Eureka’s fifth homicide this year. An autopsy of the juvenile is scheduled for Saturday, December 20.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Eureka Police Department.
