Arcata Parking Officers have new smart wheels
ARCATA- Arcata residents can expect to see their parking officers step out of a brand new Smart car. The Arcata Police Department saved $18,000 by purchasing the new vehicle.
Chief Tom Chapman said the car is greener and safer than the previous three wheeled carts. The car has been customized for the department and has LED lights and mobile police radio. The department is considering purchasing other Smart cars in the future because they are easier to maintain and cheaper to buy than the previous carts.
The car took the streets on Tuesday. "We couldn't be happier," said Steve Brown, the senior parking officer at the department.
