Arcata Police encourage residents to sign up for CodeRED emergency notifications
ARCATA - Be alert, that's what we've been taught to stay safe, but how can we be alert in emergency situations? Well that's what the CodeRED notification system is for and the Arcata Police encourage residents to sign up.
The system allows police to make alerts to residents pertaining to natural disasters, missing children, criminal activity, and even road closures.
The computer based phone system has transitioned from notifying people strictly through land lines, to cell phone and email notifications. The city of Arcata has made it easy to sign up with the system being available online through the city's homepage and the Arcata Police Facebook page.
"We are susceptible to some things here on the North Coast and in Arcata, severe weather, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and things like that. So we want to do our best to alert our community base on pending dangerous situations. So if you can list your phone number and take the precautions that you need to be alerted of these things, it's just one more step to protecting yourself and your family," said Arcata Police Lieutenant, Ryan Peterson.
