Arcata Police to increase enforcement on plaza for New Years
Celebrators on the Arcata Plaza this New Years Eve can expect to see increased law enforcement and access to the William McKinley statue blocked off. According to Arcata Police the department is expected to police the plaza like last year's holiday.
According to Det. Sgt. Todd Dokweiler the increased enforcement has prevented crime and vandalism in Arcata.
In past years, Dokweiler said, people have vandalized and attempted to climb the statue. "Over the past few years we've been pretty successful in curtailing that kind of behavior," said Dokweiler.
