Arcata Police Take on Prostitution Problem

Arcata Police made two arrests last night from a prostitution sting in the Valley West area of Arcata. After getting requests to crack down on prostitution, police contacted prostitutes advertising on the internet, after plans to meet were arranged and believed prostitutes solicited police arrests were made.


Prostitution has brought increased criminal activity in to the area said Arcata Police. Prostitutes and their believed pimps bring armed robberies and weapon possessions into the area. The Arcata Police Department said there is a connection with prostitutes traveling through the area with large amounts of marijuana, methmphetamine, and heroin.


Two arrests followed the sting, Patrice Weems, 23 of Eureka and Ashley Winfrey, 22 of Eureka were both arrested for prostitution.
