Arcata Rails with Trail 1.2 million dollar project
ARCATA - The city of Arcata has awarded a local company the contract for it’s Rails with Trail project.
Out of five bids for the one-million dollar project, the city selected McCollough Construction at Wednesday’s council meeting. Public Works Director, Doby Class, was authorized to increase the contract amount by ten percent to allow for any unseen contingencies. The trail begins at Shay Park on Foster Road and continues down to Alliance, it will end at Samoa Boulevard. The project is just the first phase of several other trails that are being planned.
"Five years down the road, you will be able to walk or ride your bike down the trail from Arcata to Eureka, that's the goal," said Netra Khatri, Arcata City Works Assistant Engineer.
The project is funded by Caltrans and the city of Arcata. The trail will be almost one mile in length and construction is expected to begin in April.
