ARCATA- Shoppers in Arcata will have to remember to bring their reusable bags into stores if they plan on going shopping. Arcata's ban on single use plastic bags goes into effect on Saturday.
Stores can still offer shoppers 40 percent post consumer paper bags at no cost until they are required to charge 10 cents for the bags in August. Plastic bags will still be available for meats, produce and bulk food items.
The City Council amended the previously passed ban to make accommodations for small businesses and unanimously approved the ordinance in November
