Arson suspect pleads not guilty in court after vegetation fires Monday
A Not Guilty plea was entered in court Wednesday for Ryan Tatara, a.k.a. Macdonald, to charges of arson, but not before deciding to represent himself.
Eureka Police arrested Macdonald Monday afternoon at the foot of Del Norte Street after witness allegedly saw him set fire to some vegetation, burning about a 100 by 300 foot area. It was the second fire Monday, the first happened around 1:30 p.m. in the greenbelt area behind the Bayshore Mall. It burned between two and three acres not before posing some serious safety threats to firefighters because of possible propane explosions.
Wednesday in court he told the judge he’d like to represent himself, even though he faces a prison sentence of up to 6 years. Macdonald is scheduled to be back in court on Friday.
