Attempted Murder added to charges in Arcata Double Murder case, D.A.: "We believe he was hiding out."
New charges of attempted murder have been filed against Bodhi Tree, the suspect of a double murder in Arcata.
A court session Wednesday also revealed new details in the case. “We believe Mr. Tree was hiding out,” said prosecuting attorney Elan Firpo of the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office. She said Tree was taking refuge at the Eye Street home in Arcata where the two alleged murders happened, after a being involved in a different shooting on J Street in Eureka just days before.
The District Attorney’s Office filed the attempted murder charges with special allegations for the Eureka shooting, which sent the victim, Rhett August, to the hospital. Firpo also told News Channel 3 Wednesday she believes Tree used the same gun for both the J Street and Eye Street shootings, but that the weapon hasn’t been recovered.
Tree pleaded not guilty to the new charges. He is scheduled to return to court September 9th.
