Authorities investigating suspicious vehicle fire in Eureka
EUREKA- The Humboldt County Arson Task Force is investigating a suspicious vehicle fire in Eureka just after 3 a.m. on Monday morning.
Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on the 5000 block of Pine Crest Court. When they arrived, they found a vehicle engulfed in flames in a driveway. Firefighters put out the blaze in five minutes, which destroyed a Toyota Camry and caused minor damaged to two vehicles parked next to it. No one was injured. Fire officials determined the blaze was suspicious in nature and handed the investigation over to the task force.
"The passenger compartment was fully involved at that time. They don't normally start unassisted in a compartment like that. Normally, you don't see a fire start there. It'll quite often start in the engine compartment," said Humboldt Bay Fire Assistant Fire Chief Bill Gillespie.
