SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT – An autopsy will be performed Tuesday on Dr. Douglas Pleatman, the pilot in Friday's plane crash in Southern Humboldt.
Dr. Pleatman was the only occupant in the airplane that clipped a fir tree and came crashing down into the South Fork of the Eel River. The airplane was airlifted out of the river Sunday afternoon. The cause of the crash is under investigation and is being handled by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
Pleatman was a doctor at Jerold Phelps Hospital and would commute by plane to work from his home in Folsom. If you knew the doctor or would like to send sympathies, the hospital is collecting cards and will pass them along to the doctor’s family.
