There was bad news and good news on Humboldt’s jobless rate. It ticked up last month but we remain down a significant amount in comparison to last year. That’s according to the County’s Employment Development Department.

Humboldt County’s preliminary October unemployment rate is 7.8 percent. That’s up by just .1 percent from September’s results. But Humboldt County remained down 1.6 percent for the month over last year at this same time. Humboldt moved up to 22nd among the 58 counties statewide. There was a job increase for industrial employment and for the entire year to date, Humboldt is currently up 600 jobs. Farm work, manufacturing, trade, information and government were the biggest gainers with 100 or more jobs create. The single exception was professional and business services, which cut 100 jobs.
