Bear encounter preparedness

HUMBOLDT COUNTY – Another bear sighting in the county, only this time it was in McKinleyville. A community member spotted a bear near town on Wednesday.

Recent sightings have urged concerns for North Coast residents.

If you run into a bear do you know how to react?

Well, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife provide a few tips you can follow.

If the bear is outside, slowly back away, go inside the nearest building or car and lock the door. Make loud noises, like yelling and banging pots and pans. Also, if the bear is inside your home, find somewhere safe, and then call 911, and remember, don’t block any of the exits the bear could use to leave the house.
