Eureka...A bicyclist suffers major injuries after being struck by a car in Eureka tonight. Police say a vehicle traveling north bound on Broadway turned onto Commercial Street in Eureka and was met by a bicyclist allegedly going the wrong way, with no light and dressed in dark clothing. Officers at the scene say the driver of the vehicle did his best to avoid the collision but was not able to. The bicyclist sustained major injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Police say bike riders driving at night with no light is a common problem in Eureka and it is extremely dangerous. Police had the following advice:
“Wear a helmet, have a headlight during the hours of darkness, follow the traffic rules like you would in a car - which you are required to by the California Vehicle Code. You have to ride with the flow of traffic, stop at stop signs, stop at red lights, signal turns and things like that. Stay tuned to News Channel 3 for updates on this story.
