Blue Lake Council to decide on proposed ballot measure
BLUE LAKE- The Blue Lake City Council will decide on Tuesday whether or not they will put a measure on the November ballot asking residents to approve a utility tax.
The proposal would be a four percent tax on every PG&E customers bill. The tax is not an excessive energy tax like the City of Arcata has adopted and would tax all residents the same, regardless of the amount of energy they use.
City officials estimate the tax would bring an estimated $40,000 per year into the city and will make up for increased expenses for law enforcement and decreased revenue to the Parks and Recreation department.
