BLUE LAKE- The Blue Lake City Council has been able to negotiate a deal with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office for their new contract. On New Years Eve the extension to the previous contract expired. The city has basic emergency services, but no patrols or deputies at the Sheriff's substation in town.
The new contract will cost the city 30 percent more than the previous one. The new contract includes more services such as animal control, data on crime in the area and help developing neighborhood watches.
Blue Lake Mayor, Sherman Schapiro said on the phone that the contract will need final approval by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. Schapiro said the city is expected to finalize the contract by the end of January.
