EUREKA- The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday in support of local farmers.

At the meeting, the supervisors received a staff recommendation to increase agricultural handler inspection fees from $85 to $292.

Each year, ranches and farms that store hazardous materials like gas, oil and other chemicals are required to be inspected by the Department of Health and Human Services for a fee.

Staff proposed raising those inspection fees saying the current amount did not cover program costs.

The supervisors voted against that recommendation Tuesday acting to maintain current fee amounts and subsidize the program from the general fund.
