Boys and Girls Club to showcase its hard work
EUREKA -- It's Boys and Girls Club Week, and here on the North Coast, the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods will open its doors to the community to share its mission and accomplishments.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods has planned events all week to showcase its work and generate support within the community.
The organization serves more than 4,000 young people each year and relies on the community to maintain that level of service.
"I totally believe in the African proverb, 'It takes a village to raise a child,’” said Liz Smith, executive director. “And so the more people that we can bring in to that village the more successful our children are going to be and our community as a whole is going to benefit."
Tours are offered Monday through Friday at any of the three club locations in Loleta and Eureka. Family-friendly karaoke is a new event this year, as well as a fundraiser for the McKinleyville Teen Center opening on June 1. Karaoke kicks off at 6:30 on Friday night at Azalea Hall in McKinleyville. And bring the whole family to Eureka's Teen Center on Saturday from noon to 4 for an afternoon of family fun.
