Fire fighters were called to a brush fire near Centerville Beach late this afternoon. At around 4 pm, the Ferndale Fire Dept received a phone call that a resident burn pile fire had expanded to include the hillside nearby. Fire crews from Ferndale, Fortuna, Loleta, Cal Fire and High Rock Conservation Camp responded. Crews battled the blaze that was in steep terrain for several hours. At around 7 pm it was brought under control. Fire officials told News Channel 3 that Fortuna Fire was doing final mop up of the site.
Fire officials warn that with the red flag warnings up throughout the state, any fire is a danger in this extremely dry winter.
