FORTUNA:  Fire season has been declared in both Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Cal Fire Unit Chief, Tom Hein issued the declaration. The reason for such an early announcement is because Cal Fire already has had to mobilize for nearly 13-hundred wildfires. That, is more that twice as many as their normal average for this time of year. The drought has had a huge impact on fires and Governor Brown is asking all citizens to reduce their water use by twenty percent.

Fire officials are encouraging homeowners to have at least one hundred feet of defensible space around their home. Clear pine needles and leaves from your yard, roof and rain gutters. Trim branches six feet from the ground and landscape with fire resistant and drought tolerant plants. For more information go to:  www.ReadyForWldfire.org.
