Cal Fire: Red Wildland Fire to be contained by Thursday
A wildfire that began Saturday continues to burn, and more than 450 firefighters are helping battle the blaze.
The Red Wildland Fire began on Saturday at about 12:30 in the afternoon in the snow camp area. Cal fire and several other agencies responded to the blaze which officials say spread quickly. The fire has consumed 3-hundred and 75-acres so far, but is already 55% contained. It is expected to be fully contained by Thursday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire officials say the red fire could have been worse.
"We were fortunate that we didn't have hot weather. We were fortunate there were roads in the area and we were able to get to the fire to fight it," said Chief Bob Ellis, the Battalion Chief of the Cal Fire office in Fortuna.
