Caltrans looks to change busy two-way street to one-way
EUREKA- Results from a Caltrans traffic study in Eureka could change a busy two-way street into a one-way only. The northbound lane on Fairfield Street from Hawthorne to Broadway is temporarily closed while workers look at changes in traffic patterns. Caltrans said they want to possibly eliminate the northbound lane of Fairfield and change it into a one-way street running only southbound. Officials said the Fairfield and Wabash intersection is different from most because five streets are involved, instead of the typical four. Workers said the purpose of the study is to get information about how travel patterns would change in the area, if the project proposal goes through. The lane will reopen at 1 p.m. Monday.
