Car engulfed in flames near Motel 6, cause remains under investigation
EUREKA-- Fire investigators are looking into what caused a car to go up in flames mid-morning Friday.
The call came in around 10 a.m. as it was parked in a lot between the Village Pantry restaurant and Motel 6. Fire officials say they were told by some witnesses they had seen people trying to start the car, then less that an hour later flames engulfed the vehicle.
Firefighters say it looks to have started in the driver’s side under the dash or floor board, but that the engine compartment was untouched. Flames blew out the windows and burned out all of the upholstery, leaving just the metal frame and wiring.
No cause has been determined.
