Car. vs. hydrant crash sends thousands of gallons of water into streets
About one hundred thousand gallons of water gushed along H Street after a car crashed into a Humboldt county fire hydrant.
It happened in front of Grant school in Eureka at about 8 a.m. Eureka Police say a Eureka mom was taking her child to school and was likely going too fast south when she said she tried to slam on the brakes but hit the hydrant.
The child inside the car was checked out for complaint of pain.
Police say the water coming from the hydrant measured fourteen hundred gallons per minute. It was turned off almost an hour and a half after the crash.
