Carson Block Building Restoration Project moving forward
EUREKA- Contractors are making progress on a project designed to give a historic building in Old Town Eureka the upgrades it needs.
Crews with Pacific Builders are retrofitting and seismically upgrading the Carson Block Building. Eureka City officials say these upgrades will increase safety for occupants and pedestrians. Contractors are currently removing stucco from the walls and they will begin to fortify the foundation in the next few weeks. Eureka officials say other than improving safety, the $10 million could make the Carson Block Building a centerpiece of Old Town.
"It really is in such a prominent location and for years, it's been a significant blight in its current condition. So to have it restored, have it looking its best, is really going to be a wonderful thing for Old Town Eureka," said Brian Gerving, the Chief Building Official for the City of Eureka.
The project is expected to be complete this December.
