Chain reaction crash on Highway 101 near CR

Eureka - Rain soaked roads led to a multi vehicle crash near College of the Redwoods Tuesday afternoon.

CHP reported that at 3:45 due to slick conditions from rain, a chain reaction crash occurred near the northbound 101 exit to Tompkins Hill road. 7 vehicles including at least 1 big rig were involved. Although no major injuries were reported, one person was observed being taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Authorities say another accident south of Tompkins Hill occurred just after the first as traffic started backing up. HWY 101 was closed for about an hour as officials looked to re-route traffic. All lanes were back open by 5 pm.
