CHP Maximum Enforcement Period underway for the holiday weekend
HUMBOLDT COUNTY- California Highway Patrol’s Independence Day Maximum Enforcement Period begins Thursday, July 3 at 5 pm and will run until Sunday, July 6 at 11:59 pm.
During this time, CHP officials say they will be out in full force to help keep holiday travelers safe. Those traveling this weekend should use caution and expect heavier than usual traffic. The CHP asks that if you see someone driving in an unsafe manner to call 911.
“During this time last year, during the Fourth of July weekend, 56 people throughout the state of California died as a result of a traffic collision,” said CHP Public Information Officer Matt Harvey. “Seventy percent of those that died did not have their seatbelts on, so because of that we're going to be heavily enforcing seat belt usage. We want to make sure everybody's wearing their seat belts, driving safely.”
