CHP Officer released from hospital following Willow Creek incident
ARCATA- The CHP Officer who was attacked with a machete Thursday has been discharged from UC Davis Medical Center.
Officer Tim Gray, who has been with the CHP for two years, received life altering wounds following last weeks incident. He was flown out of the area with injuries to his hand, arm and face.
Gray responded to a single vehicle accident at Blue Jane Lane and State Route 299 Thursday after 1:35 a.m. The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle reportedly attacked the officer with a machete. The officer discharged his weapon and the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, the Humboldt County Coroner's Office released the name of the teen that was killed as Richard Fredrick Tis Mil Estrada of Hoopa.
An autopsy was performed on the body Saturday. The information has been given to the Humboldt County Critical Incident response team for the investigation, but has not been released to the public.
