Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay communications back in service
MCKINLEYVILLE- Many North Coast residents experienced communications outages on Monday night, and the Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay Command Center was no different.
Coast Guard aircraft from Air Station Sacramento flew over the area to provide radio relays during the outage, and other local Coast Guard units monitored VHF FM radios for distress calls. Mariners were asked to use those radios in the event of any problems. The communications system was restored early Tuesday morning. Coast Guard officials say Monday night’s outage was a reminder for mariners to carry Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons on their boats because they can be used to call for help during communications interruptions.
