Eureka - The United State Coast Guard went swimming Tuesday. Not in their usual pool, the Pacific Ocean, but at the Arcata Aquatic Center. It’s a yearly drill to help them stay calm when the unthinkable happens. When a plane or helicopter goes down.
The guardsmen were training at the aquatic center to simulate a crash situation. Their uniforms with helmet and boots weigh sixty pounds. Underwater they feel heavier.
Aviation maintenance technician 3rd class said, “It’s a completely different beast. You’ve just got to realize you stay calm. In the event of an accident and something goes down in the water, keep calm get that oxygen going and get out of the plane.
Do you think the new jets will improve service at the Arcata-Eureka Airport?
