College of the Redwoods to meet with Accreditation Commission this week
EUREKA- Representatives from College of the Redwoods will meet with the Accrediting Commission for Junior Colleges later this week to review the sanctions against them. The college is looking to remove or reduce the sanctions at this weeks meeting.
The college received a serious caution by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges in Feb. 2012. The sanction was later reduced to a 'probation' status. The commission requested that the college meet eight requirements or loose accreditation completely.
College of the Redwood's President Kathy Smith said the campus has been working to meet the request that includes improving student records, employee evaluations and strategic planning.
"The faculty and staff at college of the redwoods have done an amazing amount of work this past year and they have also sacrificed," said Smith.
Smith is traveling with a board member to the meeting in San Francisco to issue a statement to the commission. Smith said she is confident the commission will reduce the current sanction against them.
College of the Redwoods will hear back from the commission in February.
