Committee narrows it down to two for vacant Eureka council seat
The city of Eureka won’t have a new councilmember until December 17.
Mayor Frank Jager said he is still in the process of interviewing the candidates to take Lance Madsen’s Ward Five seat.
Madsen announced he was resigning in October for health reasons. He was first elected to the council in 1990 and served 8 years. He came back in 2010 for another term and was set to serve until November of 2014.
Chet Albin, Leslie Lollich and Barry Smith applied for the seat after the council decided to bypass a special election and appoint someone. The three candidates went through a committee last week made up of citizens, two former councilmembers and a school board member.
Mayor Jager said that committee recommended Leslie Lollich and Chet Albin. He will interview them and make a recommendation to the council at the December 17 regular meeting.
