EUREKA- Community members are inviting other residents in Humboldt county to a forum to discuss the issues related to methamphetamine abuse. The forum will be held on Thursday at the Redwood Acres Turf Club from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Two weeks ago various members of the community have come together to form the Humboldt Meth Abuse Project. The group started the discussion on Facebook and include members of the local health care community, law enforcement and government leaders.
Dr. Michael Fratkin, a local physician, has arranged the forum. Fratkin said he and other health care professionals have seen an increase in the amount of methamphetamine users and the negative impact on the community.
"Over lots and lots of years those of us working on the front lines have been dealing with, responding to and knuckling down, under the weight, the tragedy, of methamphetamine abuse in Humboldt county, said Fratkin.
Would you support a bill that would expand access to sterile needles in an effort to stop the spread of diseases?
