Community invited to explore educational options for students
FORTUNA- Private and Charter Schools across the country are inviting parents to tour their schools to experience options other than Public Schools. Fortuna Jr. Academy participated in National School Choice Week and opened their doors to the community to tour their campus and see their classrooms in action.
Principle Kim Bowlby said she wanted to participate in the event to help parents see what other schools have to provide. "Sometimes people forget about the private and charter schools and what they have to offer," said Bowlby.
Fortuna Academy is a Christian school with 17 students. Bowlby said teachers have a very close relationship with their students, unlike larger schools. "I get to know my students," said Bowlby.
Marie Aldinger, a teacher at the academy, said some students need special attention that not all schools can offer. "Different schools meet different needs, and if someone sees that [Fortuna Jr. Academy] is a good fit for them, then [today] gives them an opportunity to explore that," said Aldinger.
Bowlby said she hopes other schools in the community will start to participate in the week long event to help students and parents find the best fit. "You want your children to feel comfortable and confident in the classroom their in," said Bowlby.
