Community supports Scotia family who lost home in fire
SCOTIA- A Scotia family who lost virtually everything in a house fire, the Gaines family, says they now have more than ever, thanks to the generosity of the community.
"It's really blown me away and it's a big 'wow' for all the stuff we got. It is just amazing. There are like no words to describe everything we've been given," said Keren Gaines.
The fire took place in the early morning hours of January 14th in the 800 block of Scotia and the cause is still unknown. The Gaines family says people started giving them donations right away, and people from throughout Humboldt County are continuing to donate, from toys to clothes to furniture. Also, the Town Of Scotia Company provided the family with two months of free rent at another home. The Gaines family would like to thank everyone in the community who offered help and say the support they have received has been heartwarming.
"There really are people that care and it just really makes you feel proud to be a part of the Humboldt County Community," said Anthony Gaines.
