Eureka- With the start of the New Year and tax season around the corner now could be the best time to clean out filing cabinets and through out old documents. Businesses and residents took advantage of a 'Free Shred' event sponsored by a local shredding business.
Owner of Shred Tec, Kyle Vesser, said shredding personal documents is the best way to avoid identity theft. "It's one of the fastest growing crimes in the us," said Vesser.
Vesser said people should shred all documents with social security, drivers license and phone numbers. "If you pass that information on and you put it in a dumpster and someone gets their hands on it the main thing is you don't know who has your information and what they have on it," said Vesser.
