County courthouse evacuated this morning due to smoke
The Humboldt County Courthouse was evacuated this morning after the Sheriff’s Office reported seeing smoke.
Crews from Humboldt Bay Fire received the call around 9:45 this morning. Once the first engine arrived, the building was evacuated and additional crews were called in.
Fire officials said the smoke was coming from an elevator motor, and that there were no flames. Crews were able to get the motor to stop smoking within a half hour. People were able to enter the building at 12:30 this afternoon.
Emergency dispatch remained in the building, Which was not damaged. The evacuation did not affect the Humboldt County Jail. No injuries were reported.
