CR Track & Field shows well at San Francisco Distance Carnival
The College of the Redwoods track and field team had another strong performance at the San Francisco State Invitational Distance Carnival on Friday, which was the first day of the two-day meet.
Highlighting the afternoon once again was freshman Kevin McTague, who broke another personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9 minutes, 56.3 seconds to maintain his No. 2 ranking in Northern California.
“He kind of had a slow start but really battled back and finished strong,” said CR head coach Reed Elmore.
Also setting personal records on the day were Elizabeth Duncan, who finished the 1,600m race in 5:26.81, while Nick Moran had a personal best in the long jump, finishing second overall with a jump of 6.59 meters, which moves him up to third inside the Golden Valley Conference.
CR’s Colton Ross PR’d in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 1.5 inches, while Stefvon Ellington had a season-best in the 800m with a time of 2:00.84.
“Things are really starting to come together for us,” Elmore said. “We’re peaking at the right time and just ready to move forward from here.”
The Corsairs will compete in the sprinting events and hurdles to complete the invitational on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.
