The College of the Redwoods Board of Directors will voluntarily reduce their numbers. The Board authorized College President, Kathy Smith, to begin the process of cutting down from nine trustees to seven at their September meeting.
College of the Redwoods is the only community college district in California with nine. All of the other 71 districts have either five or seven trustees. The resolution authorizes President Smith to enlist County of Humboldt personnel to draft maps with the new trustee boundaries in accordance with the California voting rights act. The California Community Colleges’ Board of Governors will have final decision on the reduction of CR’s number of Trustees. If approved, it will bring reduced cost for trustee travel, health benefits and election related expenses while still maintaining representation for all voters in the CR district.
