CR volleyball comes up short at Consumnes River
College of the Redwoods battled in a non-conference volleyball match at Consumnes River on Friday, but, in the end, it wasn’t enough as the Corsairs fell in straight sets, 25-22, 26-16 and 26-24.
CR’s Anna Westin had a team-high seven kills, while Morgan Psalmonds led the Corsairs with 12 digs.
Through CR’s first five matches of the season, the Corsairs are yet to play more than a three-game match.
“The first and third sets could have gone either way,” said CR head coach Marla Gleave. “We had a goal coming in that we wanted to set our tempo throughout the match and we were able to do that. We played them tough but just couldn’t get it done.”
After struggling to handle the serve in the second game and falling behind 2-0, the Corsairs rallied from behind in the third game to tie the score at 17 and then again at 19.
From there, the Corsairs built a 23-20 lead, but couldn’t hang on to seal the victory.
With the loss, Redwoods drops to 3-2 on the year.
The Corsairs will have the upcoming week off before returning to action Oct. 1 at Marin.
