Eureka - College Of The Redwoods Board of Trustees has voted to voluntarily reduce their numbers.
The college has been considering options for how to reduce the number of trustees to match other community colleges. The vote was 6-1 in favor with Del Norte board member Rick Bennett voting no. Bennett said he was dissatisfied with the way the new districts would be re-shaped.
Superintendent, Kathy Smith, had recommended the district reduce the number, sighting it could reduce costs associated with the trustees, including stipends and health benefits. The new redrawn districts and adjustments for the board begin immediately.
