Crescent City man drowns in Smith River
DEL NORTE COUNTY- The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Daniel Gomez of Crescent City drowned in the Smith River Tuesday afternoon, near Ruby Van Deventer County Park on North Bank Road. Authorities say early reports suggested Gomez drowned while attempting to help a juvenile in distress, but deputies say they have not confirmed exactly how the drowning occurred.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, search and rescue, Smith River Fire, and Fort Dick fire all responded to the incident. Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
