Crossbow homicide suspect to stand trial in July
EUREKA- The 21-year-old man accused of killing a Eureka man with a crossbow and injuring another in the Samoa dunes last Sept. will stand trial in July.
Police believe Phoenix King of Lake County killed James John James, 44, with a crossbow after a dispute over stolen items from their campsite. King and his alleged 16-year-old accomplice have both pled not guilty.
According to police the teen told detectives James threatened to kill them both and sexually assault her, which is when king admitted during his preliminary hearing that he shot the fatal arrow out of self-defense. King faces two felony counts of murder and attempted murder.
