Experts are advising anyone going to local beaches this weekend to use caution.

There is a threat of extreme wave conditions for this weekend along the coast in Humboldt, Mendocino and Del Norte Counties.  Waves about 20 feet high are expected, and U.S. Coast Guard officials say you should avoid any activities on or near the ocean. They say if you do go to the beach, make sure you do not go alone.  If you go in the water, they say to make sure your partner is on the beach with a communication device handy in case you need help.

"The ocean is very unpredictable. As much caution as you take, the only real way to ensure you don't get in trouble is to stay out of it. So we would suggest if you do go to the beach to stay well above the high water line," said Boatswain’s Mate Victoria Taylor of the U.S. Coast Guard
