Crews From Arcata Fire Protection District are investigating the cause of the fire that killed one Arcata man in a blaze that broke out Saturday night. According to Battalion Chief Sean Campbell investigators believed the fire broke out in the kitchen but now believe the fire started in the living room.
Stephen McGeary died as a result of the fire. Campbell said crews tried to get to him, but could not reach him. Campbell said the home had a lot of furniture and personal belongings that made the fire move faster in the home.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The other resident of the home was able to escape the home without any injuries.
