Del Norte County Fair Board uncertain about the future
CRESCENT CITY- The future of the Del Norte County Fair may be in the hands of voters. After the state has ended funding for fairs, the Del Norte Fair Board says they will lose $180,000 dollars in funds.
After crunching the numbers, the fair board estimates they will only survive through the 2016 fair season. One of the solutions they’re considering is the creation of a “fair district,” run by locally elected fair board members. In addition, the fair board hopes to get assistance from the county supervisors to create state legislation that will allow the new district to collect revenue through a quarter cent sales tax measure. That potential tax would have to be voted on by Del Norte residents.
The board is still in the discussion process, and wants residents to know that this is going to be a community decision.
