Del Norte man sentenced for deadly DUI crash

CRESCENT CITY- The former Crescent Elk Middle School Assistant Principal charged in the fatal crash that took the life of a Klamath man, has been sentenced to three years in state prison.
Back in December of 2012, Coulter Mann was driving on Highway 101 south of Smith River when he smashed into a truck driven by 67-year-old Kenneth Jones of Klamath. Jones later died at the scene.
In February, Mann was convicted of Driving Under the Influence with a special allegation for causing great bodily injury. However at the sentencing on Monday, a Del Norte County Judge struck down the special allegation. Officials with the District Attorney’s Office told us justice was served, but not to the fullest extent. The DA’s office wanted Mann to serve more time for the fatal crash.
Mann is being transported to San Quentin State Prison and will be sent out from there.
