Department of Fish and Wildlife considering lead sinker ban
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is considering a partial ban on lead sinkers and jigs for fishing.
Right now it is only a discussion but there is gathering momentum regarding this issue. Already, Maine, New York and New Hampshire have partial bans. Great Britain has had a complete ban on lead sinkers since 1987.
A report by the California Department of Toxic Substance Control has compiled a list for certain products being labeled restricted or banned outright. Lead products that anglers cast into lakes and streams are particularly harmful to wildlife according to a department draft document.
Three US National Refuges along with Yellowstone National Park already have bans in place.
