EUREKA- A College of the Redwoods student was arrested Thursday for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking his roommate with a guitar.

It happened just before noon at the residence hall on campus. Deputies said the two roommates got into an argument and the suspect Greg Bill, 36, struck the victim in the head with a guitar. According to deputies Bill fled the room and hid the guitar, which then prompted officials to search the surrounding residence hall.

The guitar was found and Bill was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. His roommate was taken to St. Joseph Hospital. CR Lead Safety Officer George Kapitan said any kind of assault in the College’s residence halls is extremely rare.

“This is obviously a very unfortunate event,” said CR President Kathy Smith. “We are first and foremost concerned for the well-being of the student victim. We are working with the law enforcement authorities and through our college processes.”
